August 09, 2009 On April 13, 2009, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, Founder and President of Baskent University, was stripped of all of his freedoms. Although the innonence of the president of our university has been voiced by our facuilty, students, thousands of employees and our citizens, it has gone unheard by those who have dedicated themselves to this extradjudicial execution. The announcement of the indictment to the public has proven us righteous once again. Despite the lack of concrete evidence to warrant such an action, the president of our university has been stripped of all of his freedoms and iIt is impossible to make sense of this contradiction to the rule of law. It is the greatest breach of the law and of justice, that a man of science, who has broken new ground in the medical field in Turkey and all around the world, is declared guilty based on factitious claims and allegations in a manner contradictory to all human rights and freedoms. Even though there is no evidence to suggest that the actions being alleged have even been committed, crimes are being invented through conjecture and false interpretation. As members of Baskent University, it is our only wish that these unlawful acts are put an end to, and that our Founder and President returns among us again. We respectfully announce to the public.
