    His Majesty King Felipe VI, King of Spain, bestowed upon Professor Mehmet Haberal the award of The Spanish Order of the Civil Merit (Cruz de Official) in recognition to the professional career of Professor Haberal in the fields of Medicine and Education, February 20

    Organized the International Symposium on Deceased Organ Donation and Religion in Ankara, Türkiye. The Symposium boasted 19 invited speakers and 285 participants from 16 countries and proved to be a great success with high positive feedback from all who were in attendance, March 12-13

    Edited and published a new book entitled “Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology in Liver and Kidney Transplantationâ€, June 2

    Organized the American College of Surgeons Türkiye Chapter Meeting in Ankara, Türkiye. The main theme of the meeting was “Emergency Surgery Including Burns.†Although the meeting has been held virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic, it proved to be a great success with around 30 speakers from amongst the most distinguished members of the ACS faculty. A special edition dedicated to the meeting address most of the relevant aspects of the issues that were discussed during the meeting, September 3-4

     

    2021

    Launched an international peer reviewed journal entitled Burn Care and Prevention that is published 4 issues a year; March, June, September and December. Burn Care and Prevention aims to create an arena to exchange information among all engaged in the field of burn care and prevention

    Organized the first MESOT Webinar on How to Increase Organ Donation and Transplantation in Our Region during the Covid-19 Pandemic Period to share our insights and experiences on how to increase transplantation activities in our region during the Covid-19 period, April 7

    Organized the second MESOT webinar on How to Increase Deceased Organ Donation during the Covid-19 Pandemic Period on June 9 Organized the International Symposium on Benign and Malignant Tumors in Liver With or Without Cirrhosis in Ankara, Türkiye. The Symposium had been an excellent opportunity for interaction and discussion on the latest advances and current practices in benign and malignant liver tumors, June 24-25

    Edited and published a new book entitled “Transplantation in Türkiye and in Our Regionsâ€, September 9

    Pioneered the first Transplant Conference Organized in The History of Ukraine in Kiev with great success. The Ukrainian-Turkish Scientific- Practical Conference on Transplantation which was organized as a hybrid meeting, attracted almost 800 participants from 7 different countries, on October 15-16

    Organized the Burn Care and Fire Disasters Meeting, in Ankara, Türkiye. The Meeting addressed a variety of cutting-edge issues in the field of burn injuries and fire disasters, with specific emphasis on state-of-theart presentations, November 4-5

     

    2022

    Awarded the Ihsan Doğramacı Family Health Foundation Prize in 2022 by the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) for his remarkable services globally in the field of family health, May 27

    Organized the Joint International Symposium on Pediatric Kidney and Liver Transplantation in Ankara, Türkiye. The Symposium addressed challenges and evaluated the short and long-term outcomes of pediatric kidney and liver transplantation in the Middle East and Mid Asia, February 10-11

    Organized the International Symposium on Deceased and Living Donor Recent Criteria in Ankara, Türkiye. The Symposium reviewed and evaluated living and deceased donor selection criteria especially in the fields of infectious diseases, oncology and neurology in order to propose various strategies to expand the donor pool. Around 200 guests from 34 countries attended the Symposium, May 5-6

    During the Symposium, Professor Haberal was presented with an Honorary Medal of Health by the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health in Aktobe region due to his outstanding contributions in the field of medicine in Kazakhstan, May 6

    Invited as an Honorary Speaker to the 3rd National Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation Congress that was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. During his visit, Professor Haberal met with legal authorities including members of Parliament, Chairman of the Board of Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions and Azerbaijan Health Minister, Dr. Teymur Musayev, June 3-4

     

    2023

    Professor Mehmet Haberal presented with the 2022 Tanner-Vandeput- Boswick (TVB) Burn Prize by the International Burn Foundation (IBF) Board of Directors in recognition of his long-term and outstanding contributions to the field of burn care and education, August 29

    2023 Organized the 18th Congress of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation, in Ankara, Türkiye. Around 300 participants from 38 countries attended the congress, May 24-26

    Invited as an honorary guest speaker to the 9th International Congress of Iranian Society of Organ Transplantation (IRSOT), 30 October -1 November, 2023. During the Symposium, the Shiraz University presented Professor Haberal with Honorary Professorship

    Organized the International College of Surgeons 2023 World Scientific Congress, in Ankara, Türkiye. More than 200 participants from 20 countries attended the congress, November 7-9

     

    2024

    Organized the International Symposium on Brain Death and Circulatory Death, in Ankara, Türkiye. Around 150 participants from 15 countries attended the congress November 29-30

    2024 Elected as a Partner Member of The Academy of Athens as a non-Greek Scientist for the first time in its history. The announcement was made by the President of Greece in the Official Newspaper of the State, 3199/08.12.2023 and also, announced during the Panhellenic Transplantation Congress, January 18-20 in Thessaloniki, Greece

    Organized the International Symposium on Pediatric Organ Donation and Transplantation, in Ankara, Türkiye. Around 250 guests from 20 countries attended the symposium physically and virtually March 6-7

    Invited as an Honorary Guest to the Annual Conference of the National Institute of Urology and Nephrology that was held in Cairo, Egypt. During the meeting, he was presented with a Shield of Honor by the National Institute of Urology and Nephrology for his contributions worldwide to the field of transplantation, May 8-10

    Invited to the 11th Moscow Transplantation Conference that was held in Moscow, Russian Federation. During the conference, he is awarded by the V.P. Demikhov Commemorative Medal for contribution to the development of transplantation across the globe, May 21-24

    Hosted the 30th International Congress of The Transplantation Society (TTS) in Istanbul, Turkey. This was the first international TTS congress held in Turkey and in the Middle East. As the Honorary Congress Chair, he has welcomed 2774 participants from over 97 countries.

    During the Congress, he was awarded with the Medawar Prize for pioneering kidney and liver transplantation in Turkey and broadly across the Middle East and Central Asia and for establishing critical healthcare infrastructures and legislative frameworks that have saved thousands of lives and advanced medical practices in transplantation, September 25

    The Medawar Prize, named after Society co-founder Sir Peter Medawar, is recognized as the world’s highest dedicated award for the most outstanding contributions in the field of transplantation. The award recognizes the outstanding investigators whose contributions have had such a profound influence on the field of organ transplantation.
